Nox Falls

Spooky season is upon us once again! And for my first trick:

A year of sharing a home with burlesquers came to an end this month and what a year it was!

Attending these shows has granted me the pleasure of meeting and creating with a number of wonderful performers. And in our last weekend before moving out, the fantastic Burlesque & Beyond Festival provided a sendoff of sorts for our time together.

On Thursday night I was lucky enough to find myself chatting with Nox Falls ahead of showtime. They were in town from Seattle and would be judging performances that night before headlining the final showcase. We chatted again at the Friday show and with Halloween approaching, we both had spooky vibes on our minds.

Nox mentioned owning a Garnet costume to which I responded about wanting to shoot cosplays myself this season. This conversation got us hyped up to see if we could shoot together before their performance on Saturday.

Luck was on our side as my studio home–a few blocks from their show venue–had availability in just the slot we needed! It's rare to find last-minute weekend openings there, but when the art is mean to be, it will be.

Not realizing that Nox had brought the costume to Philly, I started planning to shoot an original spooky vision. I was happy to swap it upon learning that the costume was available, but Nox was more excited to see their self through my surreal lens. They'd be performing as Garnet that night anyway, so going forward with my original vision was an easy choice. And I'm so glad we did<33

I'd normally book a two hour studio session, but given the circumstances, we only had half the time. Fortunately, the chemistry we'd started building in the two nights prior helped things go smoothly. It didn't hurt to be working with such a pro, either!

As soon as we finished shooting, Nox had to run to the venue to prep for their show. After taking my camera home, I met them there to catch Garnet in action. And what a treat that was!

Head over to the Patron Portal right now to see this entire spooky set featuring Nox Falls!
